Last weekend marked the start of our garden makeover - it will be a slow process as gardens can't be done in a weekend unless you have lots of cash and the 'Groundforce' Team available, but that's ok. We are going to enjoy the journey just as we have and still are with the house.
So, what did we start on you might wonder? There can be only one (back-breaking) thing: lifting the horrid concrete paving stones in the backyard. Getting them up was fairly straight-forward not least due to the help of our neighbor Don and our friend Boyko. However as we should know by now things in this house and it seems in its garden are never 'just' simple. When we started turning over the soil to get it ready to roll out turf we discovered that it had been used to bury building rubble in the past. Huge chunks of old brick work, roof tiles, etc were strewn all over the place and had to be sifted out. Not only that we also found a large hole filled with the stuff that had then been filled up with concrete. Lifting and breaking up the concrete slab was a job and a half in itself! When I told Esther about our surprise discoveries in the garden she said: 'I'm surprised you're still surprised!' :o)
Anyway - here is our progress:

the turf is being delivered on Friday, so by the end of the weekend we should have a new lawn!
