One of the key elements of a DIY job is, that you do not - strictly speaking - do it yourself. You use any trick in the book to rope your friends, family, work colleagues, distant acquaintances, etc... into lending a helping hand. And surprisingly they all seem quite up for the idea, first time round that is. :oP
Unfortunately I seem to have decimated the number of willing family members after refurbishing the flat I bought with my sister a few years ago. They have now promised to emigrate to Mexico and drink Margheritas until the house is done and they can safely return to their respective homes. Any excuse, eh? ;o)
So I am more than grateful to the friends that have come over to help so far. In order of appearance they are:
Expert Esther - well she would be after our previous flat project! Together we are also known as 'The Demo Sisters'
Terrific Thomas - did a great job re-opening the doorway between kitchen and living room. And lent us a master chisel & hammer!
Incredible Ida and Knockdown Karl - ripping out tiles and removing concrete shelves just wouldn't be the same without them. :o)
Nifty Nigel - Plumbing genius extraordinaire (also comes with tools!)
Heroic Hannah - crawling into dark and tight loft spaces littered with wasp nests and spiderwebs is nothing to her. Also good with a drill, chisel, in fact anything we could throw at her!
Master Max - Master electrician - always available for practical advice and trade discount electrical parts!
I think by the time the house is done we may have to hire out Wembley Stadium to throw a party for all the helpers. Until then a massive THANK YOU to all - and please come back for more.
